Yoga has been a transformational force in my life, starting from the moment I stepped onto the Wii Fit balance board in 2013 to try a wobbly Tree pose. It was just for fun with my kids, but I ended up learning several key poses while playing, growing stronger and more confident each time we fired up the Wii.

By the time I advanced to a nearby gym featuring an infrared hot yoga studio and a lineup of inspirational teachers in 2014, I was hooked. Hot vinyasa was the all-around workout I’d been searching for my entire adult life, and my sweaty efforts were rewarded with newfound serenity, balance, strength and joy — on and off my mat.

When I moved across town in 2022, leaving my yoga crew was among the hardest losses. Happily, the universe placed me in Ashley Yono’s path. After happening upon her donations-based class on the front lawn of a Ferndale coffee shop, I asked about local options, saying I was searching for hot vinyasa led by skilled and enthusiastic teachers to motivational beats in a softly lit studio heated to surface-of-the-sun temps. She pointed me toward Bold Flow, and the moment I stepped into the Woodward Corners studio, I knew I was home.

I was delighted to learn that in addition to a range of fun and challenging classes amongst an inclusive community, Bold Flow also offers YTT200. During 2023-24, I completed the course with my cohort of compassionate and committed yogis, and was honored to earn a spot on the Bold Flow schedule at the end of that journey.

All yoga speaks to me but hot vinyasa still takes me to church. I can’t get enough of this moving meditation that calms my mind, strengthens my body and sparks my spirit. I hope to inspire those same feelings in my fellow yogis each time I teach. On my current path, I am choosing to accept all that the universe has to offer, knowing that when I do so with gratitude, the universe responds with loving abundance.
